Dear one who doesn’t fit in,
DON’T CHANGE! You are beautiful for being the person God created you to be. Not everyone will always get you or agree with you or think you are cool…but guess what? That’s totally ok! I know this is really cliche, but God really did make us beautiful – inside AND out. He made us in his image and what could be more beautiful than the image of God?
When you are finding it difficult to make friends, please know that friends will come. Remember God has a plan for your life. Sometimes it may go slower than we would like, but there is a plan in place. If you can trust him with everything, you’ll get to a place of peace and joy like no one can explain.
Not every person you meet is meant to be your “bestie” anyways. Maybe, God is saving you from an unhealthy friendship? Maybe, that person isn’t at a place where they can be the friend you need and want right now? I don’t know exactly, but I do know that God is faithful in all aspects of life and only wants what is best for us.
In the meantime, don’t change for immediate gratisfaction (you know gratification and satisfaction combined lol). Don’t put your moral code aside so that they like you more. Don’t do things you wouldn’t normally do just to impress someone. If they don’t like you the way God created you, then they aren’t worth your time anyways.
Find the people that love you for you. Find the people that pour positivity into your life. Find the people that make you want to be a better version of yourself…
When you are finding it difficult being single, please know that companionship WILL come. God has the perfect person in mind for you. Sometimes, God is still working on that person to be the best they can for you when the time is right. Sometimes, God is working on us too!
Getting into a relationship prematurely is only going to cause more hurt and pain. TRUST God and his timing. I know it is hard – really hard sometimes – when everyone at your high school walks hand in hand with someone in the hall, or when all your friends are married, engaged, or about to have their 5th kid. BUT, if we can learn to walk hand in hand with God in the meantime the amounts of love in our future are endless.
Compromising ourselves for someone who may not be right for us in the end is never worth it. What we do now DOES and WILL affect our future (that goes for relationships and other areas of life too, but we can talk about that more later). Imagine…we date someone out of loneliness. Someone who’s moral code doesn’t quite add up to ours. Someone that’s got red flags waving all around them. But, we ignore our conscience (or what I like to call the Holy Spirit’s voice) and continue on because for now it feels good.
Decisions based on feelings can be a dangerous – very dangerous. Down the road we could end up in a relationship (or marriage) that is lacking in so many important ways. Ways that could crush our spirit – crush our joy – crush our hope. Why do we always want to “have it now” rather than wait patiently for the better? Because its hard right? Patience IS hard. But, what if we could catch it BEFORE destruction hits and stomp Satin’s attempts in our lives right out?!
Let’s make a pact together. You and I and all the other “out of place-rs” out there. We will stand in the awkward and breath it in. We will be OURSELVES despite what others say or do. We will surround ourselves with people who pour into us the love we so deserve. We will not become impatient in the mean time. AND we will always remember that God takes care of the birds so of course he will take care of us! (Matthew 6:26)
God is alive and well and he provides – ALWAYS. But, he doesn’t always provide in our timing, right? Which creates impatience and anxiety and hopelessness.
Sometimes I am impatient too – heck I’m impatient MOST of the time. I’ll sit there and tell God what and when I want things to happen. How silly! I can just picture God up in heaven giggling at me and my toddler like “tantrums”. My ideas of what is “perfect” cannot compare to the perspective our heavenly father has. He sees ALL stories, ALL people, ALL places, ALL time – he see everything that we cannot see. He must know what is best! To be able to learn that and believe that and remember that can truly bless our lives and our futures.
So again, to you who feel like you’re different, like you don’t fit in, like the odd ball in the room…BE YOU because YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL and God will honor you for staying true to him!
1 Samuel 2:30 “…for those who honor me I will honor…”
1 Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you…”
James 1:12 “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”
